Our hopyard is located at the Mahon Ranch in Elk Grove CA, county of Sacramento.

Our Hopyard

We are proud to bring back a century old tradition of growing hops in the Elk Grove/Cosumnes area. We strive to grow quality hops while bringing the importance and history of this crop into cultural awareness.

Comet: Cross of English Sunshine and Native U.S hops. Presents notes of grapefuit/citrus and grassyness. Released in 1974 by the USDA.

AA can range from 9.4%-12.4%

What Varietals do we grow?

At the Mahon Ranch, hops used to be the primary crop during the late 1800s and early 1900's. Since then, most of those hops have been ripped out and have almost disappeared.

Farmer Joe has run across the ranch and up and down the Cosumnes River to discover some of the original hops left forgotten by all but the Mahons.

It is our intent to breed at least the one varietal found back in to production and finally offer this evolved varietal back to the public.

Stay tuned for this Release!!

Ranch News

Farmer Joe and friends have been busy this winter, modifying the farm to meet this years goals of installing new watering systems below ground, and prepping TWO new acres of land to plant!!!

Additionally we ended up ripping out our cashmere stock after three years. We discovered that Cashmere just did not grow well in high heat like Comet, and did not have nearly the same ripening month as the Comet harvest, so we just had to get rid of it and will be filling in the space with out surprise varietal which is currently being cloned.

While we are working on the two acres, we may not have this addition ready until the 2022 harvest year.
